If you have a pet, make sure that you take the proper precautions in order to insure that it is difficult for your pet not to get lost and that they are properly documented in case they are out in the neighborhood. One of the best ways to prevent your pet from being lost for a long period of time is to have them always wear a collar with a license and identifying information. This way if they come into contact with others, an identification can be made easily.
If you notice your dog or cat is lost, look for your pet immediately, the longer you wait, the more your pet could have wandered. Carry a belonging of your pet when you search for it, this way, your pet can catch a scent if they lost their way. It is also important to look in every nook and cranny. Sometimes pets are scared and will hide in very small areas.
If your pet is gone overnight, leave a blanket outside or something the dog is familiar with in order to recognize your home. Talk to your neighbors and especially children if they saw your pet. Children usually notice animals more than people.
